Stop SOPA!

Posted on Monday, January 16th, 2012 in Web News

SOPA will break the internet! It really is not the solution to stop pirated content from being distributed around the internet. The entertainment industry do have plenty laws that can stop access to illegal content. SOPA will most certainly create more issues than fix any. The freedom and innovation that the internet gives us will be taken away, severely restricting our online progress. Read more

Why not to use Facebook Pages

Posted on Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 in Web News

Facebook logo imageThis is not a post against Facebook pages but more about making a careful decision to use them. The benefits of using a Facebook page is obvious which might be why we are all so quick to jump on board but we should question why we should not use them.

Are Facebook pages replacing web sites

I have seen this popping up all over the place. “Are Facebook pages replacing web sites?” I definitely don’t think Facebook pages could or ever replace a web site. Read more

IE9 Review

Posted on Sunday, March 6th, 2011 in Web News

This is a quick review of IE9 and what I think of it.

IE 9 Screen shot

Firstly downloading and installing IE9 is a bit of a pain, takes a little long and then I have to restart my computer!! It’s just a web browser!

Clearly they have changed there HTML and CSS standards again! Because I checked some of my sites and they don’t really render properly. Again different to IE 8 AND IE 7.

From a web design and development point of view this is an issue because you have to apply different code to a site to make it work for each version! There are hardly any issues like this for FireFox, Chrome or Opera. So booo to IE AGAIN from all the web designers!!!

Rich Snippets

Web news image

Google now provides special Rich Snippet HTML tags. These tags can be used to better structure your data on the web page so that search engines can make better sense of your data and provide better search results. Firstly these tags do not affect the way your web page will look. There aim is to make your web page content more accessible to the Search Engine spiders. For instance on a review website each part of the reviews will be labelled like the title, rating and content. Then if a person is searching for reviews on pizza restaurants it could bring up review information on that restaurant in the search results.
