IE9 Review

Posted on Sunday, March 6th, 2011 in Web News

This is a quick review of IE9 and what I think of it.

IE 9 Screen shot

Firstly downloading and installing IE9 is a bit of a pain, takes a little long and then I have to restart my computer!! It’s just a web browser!

Clearly they have changed there HTML and CSS standards again! Because I checked some of my sites and they don’t really render properly. Again different to IE 8 AND IE 7.

From a web design and development point of view this is an issue because you have to apply different code to a site to make it work for each version! There are hardly any issues like this for FireFox, Chrome or Opera. So booo to IE AGAIN from all the web designers!!!

New Adventures in Web Design

Posted on Sunday, August 22nd, 2010 in Web News

Picture of New Adventures web siteThe New Adventures in Web Design Conference will certainly be worthwhile attending because many highly respected innovators of the web will be there sharing their ideas for the future of the web. It will be featuring Andy Clarke , Brendan Dawes, Veerle Pieters, Mark Boulton, Dan Rubin, Elliot Jay Stocks, Jon Tan, Sarah Parmenter, Tim Van Damme and Greg Wood. Not only will it be featuring these great minds but what makes it even more irresistible is the price, at only £80 for the early birds.

This event will be for front-end developers and mostly web designers as it is “organised by designers for designers”. They will discuss how to combat existing and new hurdles in the world of web design. You should expect some brilliant ideas and well thought out opinions from the speakers.

The conference is in Nottingham, England on the 20th of January 2011.

For more details about this conference go to http://newadventuresconf.com/ and you can follow them on twitter @NACONF

Five Free WYSIWYG web editors

Posted on Sunday, July 18th, 2010 in Web Development

The idea here is to be able to update your website or a client’s website quickly, efficiently and effectively without having to mess around with HTML code and CSS but with free web editing software. Lets say you lack the technical know how or the budget does not allow for the purchase of a good hosting package to install a Content Management System to update the site. If this is the case a good option is to look for a free web editor that can do the simple job of maintaining the web content. Read more

Still in development. This is a social network for golfers but more importantly a golf stats recording system. Golfers enter their scores and stats are generated e.g. stroke, putting, hit fairways and GIR averages. Special performance graphs are generated to provide a visual interpretation of their golf game to identify strengths and weaknesses.
Technologies: XHTML, CSS, JavaScript (JQuery), AJAX, PHP and MySQL, Google Chart Tools
