Stop SOPA!

January 16th, 2012 in Web News

SOPA will break the internet! It really is not the solution to stop pirated content from being distributed around the internet. The entertainment industry do have plenty laws that can stop access to illegal content. SOPA will most certainly create more issues than fix any. The freedom and innovation that the internet gives us will be taken away, severely restricting our online progress.

Here is information and a video that explains it well http://sopablackout.org/learnmore/.

Join the protest to stop SOPA and PIPA from being passed. More than 26,000 people on twitter have changed their profile picture with the “stop SOPA” banner – you can join in on the #blackoutSOPA website. Websites that will be joining are reddit, cheezburger, possibly Wikipedia and more. They will blackout their website for twelve hours on the 18th of January. There are also big shots in the protesting like @MChammer, @timoreilly, @sacca and pletty others.

How will SOPA affect the internet?

Currently user content generated web sites, like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter hold the user accountable for what they choose to publish. If the owner of that content sees it is posted on one of these sites without their permission they can get the site own to remove it and deal with the individual user. SOPA changes this, now they will be able to hold the site accountable of published content, meaning the site could be seized. Imagine Facebook was stopped because someone posted some copyrighted material. This will completely disrupt economic flow and ruin the internet experience.

Support to stop SOPA is building up fast to try and stop this piracy act from passing.
